26 April 2021

In terms of section 2(1) of the Vacancy Procedure Act (Act 8, 2003) the following intimation is to be read on Sunday 2 May and Sunday 19 May 2021 at each diet of worship and a duplicate copy displayed as prominently as possible at the church buildings for the intervening seven days. The certificate of execution on this copy should then be signed by the Session Clerk or other Elder and returned to the Presbytery Clerk at the start of the Presbytery Meeting at 2.15pm on 15 May 2021 in Salen Church.

Intimation

Notice is hereby given that the Presbytery of Argyll has received a Call from the congregation of North Mull addressed to Rev Liz Gibson to be the new minister. This Call has been sustained as a regular Call, and has been accepted by her.

The Presbytery, having judged the said Rev Liz Gibson qualified for this charge, has resolved to proceed to her induction on Saturday 15 May 2021 at 2.30pm o’clock.

The only circumstance in which this would not occur is if an objection occurs which may reasonably impede it.

Notice is hereby given that if any member of the congregation of North Mull has objection to the life or doctrine of the said Rev Elizabeth Gibson you should intimate your objection at the earliest opportunity to the Presbytery Clerk. If you do this, you will also need to submit to the Presbytery Clerk appropriate evidence to substantiate your objection.

The Presbytery is to meet at 2.15pm on 15 May 2021. If an objection is not notified in advance but is first brought at that meeting the objector must satisfy the Presbytery that there was no earlier opportunity to bring the objection to the attention of the Presbytery Clerk.

Unless a substantiated objection is made which is then upheld, the Presbytery shall proceed to the induction of the said Rev Liz Gibson without further delay.

By order of the Presbytery,

Signature 2

W Stewart Shaw DL

Presbytery Clerk

(This note does not form part of the foregoing Notice, but should be read for the sake of clarity)

No action is required on the part of members of the congregation or members of Presbytery who are satisfied with the Presbytery’s decision.

I CERTIFY that the foregoing intimation was read in the face of the congregation of North Mull on 2 May and 9 May 2021 and a duplicate copy thereof displayed as prominently as possible at the church building for the intervening seven days.

Notice of Nomination

North Mull (Church of Scotland) SC 002878

Dear Congregational member,

At a meeting held on 5th March 2021 the Nominating Committee for North Mull chose the person who they wish to propose to this congregation of North Mull to be our new minister. The name of the person proposed is Rev Elizabeth Gibson.

Arrangements have been made for Rev Elizabeth Gibson to conduct public worship in Salen Church and via Zoom on Sunday the 28th day of March at 11.00 o’clock.

After that service, there will be a vote on whether or not Rev Elizabeth Gibson should be appointed as the new minister of this congregation of North Mull. Anyone whose name appears on the Electoral Register of this congregation of North Mull shall be entitled to vote. No-one else shall be entitled to vote.

It has been agreed by the Presbytery of Argyll the vote will be a paper ballot which you will receive in due course. It should be completed after the service and posted to the Interim Moderator to arrive not later than 10 days after the preaching, that is by Wednesday 7th April. This includes those who were present at the live service.

Kind regards,

Rev Dr Roderick Campbell,

Interim Moderator.

“Learning Together: Lent 2021

North Mull Churches warmly invite you to join this years Lent study on “Life Changing Stories”

The third of their Bible studies, Scripture from the Margins, Church Action on Poverty focuses this one on the Acts of the Apostles.

From Shrove Tuesday to Holy Week we will explore aspects of poverty, what the Bible says about them, and of how we might put our faith into action in response.

Facilitated, non recorded Zoom sessions each Tuesday at 2pm (Pam Wisher) and 7.30pm (Liz Gibson) lasting no more than 90 minutes.
All materials are provided but it would be handy to have access to a Bible for further reference.

If you wish to sign up to receive the Zoom link or just want more information, please contact Pam Wisher initially on Pam.wisher@btinternet.com or 07769651308.

Church of Scotland Mull and Iona

Due to the ongoing effects of the coronavirus it is with great sadness that we have been advised by the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh that we should no longer hold services of worship for the foreseeable future. This will be a great loss to all the churches and the wider communities they serve.

In this time of national disruption the health and social implications brought on by the virus are hard enough to bear but the additional loss of of spiritual prayer and support in worship is another burden upon us all.

Take every opportunity to follow services streamed over the internet or on the radio such as Radio 4 and Radio Scotland, and there are others, to keep in touch with the wider church community.

The elders and officers of all the churches are always available for prayer, support and guidance.

You will all be very much in our thoughts and prayers and may you know that God is watching over you.

Prayers too for those with the virus, those on the frontline caring for them, those in our communities stepping up to help others, and all who are endeavouring to reduce the spread of infection.

The churches are indebted to Rev Jenny Earl and the part-time Locum Minister Rev Liz Gibson for their continuing support.
